2 Children Dead after Kirtland Fire, One Person Injured

First Responders arrived to a manufactured home engulfed in smoke and flames. Eleven Fire Department apparatus and two Volunteer Fire Districts responded to the scene. Farmington Fire Department responded an additional engine to assist. Firefighters worked to rescue two individuals who were pronounced deceased on scene, and one other resident was treated for minor injuries.

Update: SJCOEM confirms to KSJE the two people killed in the fire were children.

From the San Juan County Office of Emergency Management:

Volunteer Firefighters from District 1 Kirtland Valley, and District 4 La Plata along with San Juan County Fire Department Command Staff, and San Juan Regional EMS responded to a manufactured home fire at approximately 6pm Wednesday night in the area of County Road 6480 and 6489.

 

First Responders arrived to a manufactured home engulfed in smoke and flames. Eleven Fire Department apparatus and two Volunteer Fire Districts responded to the scene. Farmington Fire Department responded an additional engine to assist.

 

Firefighters worked to rescue two individuals who were pronounced deceased on scene, and one other resident was treated for minor injuries.

 

NM State Police closed County Road 6480 for approximately two hours while Firefighters, and investigators secured the scene.

 

The incident is currently under investigation by the San Juan County Fire and Explosion Task Force which includes investigators from San Juan County Fire, San Juan County Sherriff’s Office, and Farmington Fire.

 

San Juan County Red Cross is assisting the family.
