Walk for Hope & Color Run

The Children's Hope Foundation assists families in San Juan County who must travel in order to obtain medical care for children who have cancer, heart disease, genetic disorders or other serious illnesses. There is no required entry fee, but we ask walkers to raise what they can, or to make a donation. This is a family friendly walk for everyone from grandparents to children in strollers. The "Walk for Hope and Color Run" will begin at the Berg Park Pavilion and follow the 2 mile River Walk Trail. To symbolize the obstacles that our children overcome, we are working with the Farmington Firefighter's Association to place an obstacle, beginning with a mud pit, at each quarter mile along the walk. Each obstacle will be named for one of our children, such as "Balian's Wall". There will be a firefighter at each obstacle, as well as a new Marine recruit to help children and any adult needing help with the obstacle. All obstacles will be placed so that any participant can choose to walk around any or all of the challenges. The day will begin with registration, a presentation of the flag by the Firefighter's Association Honor Guard, and The National Anthem. The event then begins with each participant tossing a bag of colored powder into the air and lining up for the mud pit. Walkers will begin in waves to control a jam at any one obstacle. While walkers are waiting for their start, music and Zumba lessons will take place for their warm up. Powdered color will continue to be tossed along the walk and at the obstacles. The event will be attended by the Farmington Police Department, the Farmington Firefighter's Association and the San Juan County Fire Department. As the walkers finish, food trucks, snow cones and drinks will be available. A DJ will be on site throughout the event to provide music and entertainment.
It will be a festival of challenges, fun and hope! Well behaved dogs on leashes are welcome to come with their families. (Last year's walk had dogs of all colors after participating in the color run.) The foundation assisted 243 families in 2019 and we expect that number to grow in 2020. This event is one of their major annual fundraisers.
