Author Dr. Dwight T. Pitcaithley was the chief historian with the National Park Service for the last 10 of his 30 years there, and he taught history at New Mexico State University from 2005-2019. He will explore the causes of the Civil War through the official records left by Congress, state legislatures, and state secession conventions. He has identified over 8,000 official and published pages that document the secession of the southern states in 1860 and 1861.
