Unspun Tales: Sheep in San Juan County

Saturday, May 2, 2026

Time
2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Venue
Aztec Museum & Pioneer Village, Aztec, NM, 87410

Come learn about the importance of the region's sheep heritage and the
people who lived it! Southwest wool helped clothe the nation and its
military, supplying the woolen mills of the east coast. Our sheep fed
local families as well as the urban centers of the American Industrial
Age. Navajo artisans gained worldwide recognition dying and weaving wool
into exquisite textiles still sought out today.
A local panel will reminisce and share stories of the sheep heritage of
the area and what it was like to grow up in sheep country. Come hear the stories experienced and passed down by generations of area sheep ranchers and herders!
Join us at 2pm in the Event Shed of the Pioneer Village for the Panel Discussion!
The story of the American West cannot be spun without sheep!
