Thursday, August 13, 2026 - 10 minutes
The Aztec Museum in Pioneer Village is hosting a free presentation on Sunday featuring author John Wallace and his book, The Sheep Industry of Territorial New Mexico. Wallace will discuss the important role sheep played in New Mexico’s economy, culture, foodways, clothing, and history from the territorial period through statehood in 1912.
The event highlights how New Mexico became the first major sheep-producing region west of the Mississippi River and how the industry helped integrate the Southwest into the national economy. The Pioneer Village and museum exhibits open at 4:30 p.m., followed by Wallace’s presentation at 6:00 p.m.
