The Scott Michlin Morning Program

Monday, October 5, 2026 - 30 minutes

The interview highlights Rick Burns, founder and president of Kurada, a nonprofit organization supporting internally displaced women and children in Afghanistan. Drawing on his military experience in Iraq and Afghanistan, Burns explains the severe challenges faced by women and girls under the Taliban, including restrictions on education, employment, and basic freedoms.

Kurada provides kindergarten education, literacy classes, vocational training, livestock, and other resources that help women become more self-sufficient and support their families. Despite the difficult and dangerous circumstances, Burns and the women working with Kurada remain committed to creating opportunities and improving the lives of vulnerable Afghan families.
