Gunshot Prompts Lockdown

Last year, a similar incident occurred and law enforcement contacted a citizen that was shooting at prairie dogs near our building. It is suspected that this could be a similar situation and we want to remind the community that it is illegal to discharge a firearm in the city limits of Aztec, as well as within 150 yards of a dwelling or building.

From the San Juan Co. Sheriff's Office:

At approximately 10:20am this morning, two detectives with the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office were in the west parking lot when they heard gun fire and a bullet impact the side of the building. All the government buildings in the area went into lockdown immediately. A team of Sheriff’s Office deputies and detectives searched the field west of the building and the lockdown was lifted after the area was cleared. Suspect Arrested after Sexual Assault

During the investigation, officers learned that a male and female who knew each other had been in the area of the disc golf course. Neither individual was a student or staff member of San Juan College. The female victim reported that an altercation occurred between her and the male, Tyson Saggboy. She reported that Saggboy battered her, removed her clothing, and strangled her before fleeing the scene.
