Woman's Husband Arrested for Kirtland Killing

Through the course of the investigation, detectives discovered that Lauren Patterson’s husband, Jess Patterson, had previously resided in California and had been arrested at least 6 times for domestic violence in that state and had been arrested in July 2026 in New Mexico for battering Ms. Patterson. An autopsy revealed Ms. Patterson suffered multiple broken bones, bruising, and internal injuries.

Thursday, October 8, 2026

On the evening of Sunday, 10/4/26, a 17 year old made a 911 call regarding his mother, a 36-year old woman, Lauren Patterson, who was not breathing and was unconscious. When deputies arrived, Ms. Patterson was declared dead on scene.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives discovered that Lauren’s husband, Jess Patterson, had previously resided in California and had been arrested at least 6 times for domestic violence in that state and had been arrested in July 2026 in New Mexico for battering Ms. Patterson. An autopsy revealed Ms. Patterson suffered multiple broken bones, bruising, and internal injuries.

Based on the investigation, a search warrant was obtained for Mr. Patterson’s phone where a video was located that depicted Ms. Patterson’s final moments, which included Mr. Patterson standing on her chest.

Subsequently, an arrest warrant was sought and obtained for Mr. Patterson on the charge of Murder in the 1st Degree (open count). Mr. Patterson was arrested and is currently being held at San Juan County Adult Detention Center.

  • Assault Suspect Fatally Shot in Kirtland

    Deputies made multiple commands to stop and drop the knife, however, the suspect ignored the commands and continued moving towards the deputies with the knife. A deputy discharged his sidearm, striking the suspect. Immediate life-saving aid was rendered to the suspect, but he ultimately died at the scene. The Farmington Police Department is leading the investigation.
