Armed Robbery Update

Based upon evidence at the scene and witness statements, the Farmington Police Department Detectives have identified a person of interest in the armed robbery as 26 year old Marcos Santiago Gutierrez Jr. of Farmington, NM.

Farmington, NM - On September 14th, 2015, at approximately 2115 hours, Farmington Police Officers were dispatched to the Walmart at 1400 W. Main St., in reference to an armed robbery. The investigation revealed the suspect entered Walmart and proceeded to the electronics department. The suspect then approached the cashier in the electronics department and made an initial demand for the money in the cash register. The cashier ignored the suspect's initial demand. The suspect then raised his shirt, exposing his waistband area. The cashier observed what they believed to be a weapon. The cashier then complied with the suspect's demand and an undisclosed amount of money was placed in a bag. The suspect exited the store, fleeing on foot heading westbound. A description of the suspect was provided to officers; however, they were unable to locate the suspect at that time. With surveillance video, Farmington Police Detectives have developed significant leads and are currently attempting to positively identify the suspect.

Based upon evidence at the scene and witness statements, the Farmington Police Department Detectives have identified a person of interest in the armed robbery as 26 year old Marcos Santiago Gutierrez Jr. of Farmington, NM. Thus far, police detectives have been unable to locate and speak with Mr. Gutierrez in furtherance of their robbery investigation. Additionally, Mr. Gutierrez is currently wanted for a pre-existing warrant for his arrest on an unrelated matter. Mr. Gutierrez should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Mr. Gutierrez should notify authorities immediately at (505) 334-6622. Persons with information regarding this crime may contact the Farmington Police Department Detective Division at (505) 599-1005. Additionally, anonymous crime tips may be reported by calling the San Juan County Crime Stoppers at (505) 334-TIPS (8477). If convicted, the suspect in this armed robbery faces up to nine years in prison, and fines up to $10,000.

He has been identified as Joe Brinkerhoff, a resident of the City of Durango. Due to a prior incident, Joe Brinkerhoff was trespassed from the property and his Rec Center privileges were suspended.

A warrant was issued to charge Heather Fernandez-Hoefer. She was taken into custody without incident on April 1, 2025.

    Upon arrival, deputies made contact with multiple individuals including juveniles and young adults and located a deceased individual identified as Samuell Tariq Liggins, age 20.
