The move will not affect the 2026 racing season in San Juan County. Live racing is scheduled for April 17 – May 24, 2026. San Juan County has previously said that McGee Park and the San Juan County Fairgrounds would not be impacted by any changes at the casino and horse racing track.
By a 3-0 vote, the New Mexico Racing Commission approved a relocation plan presented by the operators of SunRay Park and Casino to move their horse racing and casino operations to Clovis, NM as soon as 2027. The vote was taken at a special meeting in Albuquerque on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
The New Mexico racing commission has not returned phone messages to KSJE requesting comment, but the vote was confirmed by San Juan County's spokesperson Devin Neeley. San Juan County owns the horse track and casino building and leases the space SunRay Park which is operated by Western Gaming, LLC.
