The City of Farmington invites community members to an informational presentation on data centers on Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Farmington Civic Center.

Led by City Manager Shaña Reeves, with Mayor and City Council members in attendance, the session is designed to provide transparent, early information regarding data center infrastructure, technology, and local municipal oversight.

While this session is not organized around any specific proposal, City staff is hosting it in direct response to community interest and regional trends—including local inquiries like Project Jupiter—to share context on modern facility scale, lessons learned from other municipalities, and the guardrails Farmington is establishing for potential future developments. The goal is to ensure our community is fully informed—establishing a clear, factual understanding of data center infrastructure, environmental standards, and local review processes before any project is ever formally considered.

“This public education session is being held in direct response to our community’s desire to better understand and be part of the City’s strategic response to the growing interest in data center development across our region and communities throughout the country,” said City Manager Shaña Reeves. “While the City does not currently have a formal data center project before us for consideration, we recognize that our community has questions and concerns, and we believe those deserve thoughtful, factual information, and a clear understanding of how the City is preparing for what may come next.”

Event Format & Public Participation:

To give all attendees comprehensive, clear information during the allotted time, this session is structured as a direct presentation featuring subject-matter experts and department heads, rather than an open-mic town hall. The presentation will outline what data centers are, facility types, and the comprehensive factors—including water usage, power grid demands, noise impacts, and zoning—that City leadership prioritizes when evaluating any potential development.

Submitting Questions Prior to the Event:

Participants are encouraged to submit questions ahead of time via an online submission form at farmingtonnm.gov/data-center. City staff will organize these inputs to ensure the most frequently asked questions are directly addressed during the main presentation.

Feedback & Community Input:

During the presentation, all attendees will receive a data center infrastructure feedback survey to share their priorities and concerns. Surveys will also be made available online for those viewing the recording. City leadership is currently considering a formal resolution regarding data center policy, and feedback gathered from these surveys will directly help guide those policy decisions.

Post-Presentation Follow-Up:

City staff will remain available immediately following the presentation for one-on-one discussions. Additionally, staff will thoroughly review all submitted questions and survey responses, publishing a formal written response document on the City’s website within 30 business days following the event.

Attendance & Accessibility:

  • Date & Location: Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Farmington Civic Center (200 W. Arrington St.).
  • Seating & Capacity: Seating is available for approximately 425 attendees, and the City will make every effort to accommodate as many community members as possible. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
  • Recording: The full presentation will be recorded and posted to the City’s website alongside the digital feedback survey. If public interest exceeds venue capacity, the City will evaluate scheduling an additional session to ensure all interested residents can participate.
