*Update* Police ID Suspect in Farmington Shooting Death

19-year-old Farmington resident Diondre Badonie was detained as he tried to leave the area on foot while the officers searched the neighborhood. While detained, Badonie became combative with officers while being patted down and advised of his Miranda Rights. After investigation, Badonie was arrested for second-degree murder and two counts of battery on a peace officer.

Farmington police identified 19-year-old Farmington resident Diondre Badonie as the man in a fatal shooting that took place early Saturday morning.
Around 12:58 am on January 22, Farmington police responded to a report of shots fired near North Butler Avenue and Orchard Homes Drive. As the officers came into the area, they heard a single gunshot. Badonie was detained as he tried to leave the area on foot while the officers searched the neighborhood. Officers located a deceased man with a single gunshot wound during their search. While detained, Badonie became combative with officers while being patted down and advised of his Miranda Rights. After investigation, Badonie was arrested for second-degree murder and two counts of battery on a peace officer. The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be released when they’re available. The victim is not being identified right now to allow for family notification. Farmington police have a man in custody following a shooting that resulted in the death of another man in the early morning hours.
Around 12:58 am on January 22, 2022, Farmington Police Department officers responded to a report of shots fired near N. Butler Ave. and Orchard Homes Dr. As the officers came into the area, they heard a single gunshot. A man leaving on foot was detained as the officers searched the neighborhood. Officers located a deceased man with a single gunshot wound during the search.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be released when they’re available. The names of the men involved in this case are not being released right now. Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to call the Farmington Police Tip Line at 505-599-1068.

First Responders arrived within minutes and began life-saving measures on both individuals. Both were transported to Mercy Hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries.

    The driver of the red Toyota Supra, 22-year-old Kalynn Kenworthy, was charged with racing on highways. Kenworthy has an extensive history of traffic violations, including citations for racing in August 2025 and in 2023, as well as more than seven speeding citations within the past four years, each averaging more than 15 mph over the posted speed limit. Additional charges are pending against the driver of the white passenger car.

  • Dineh Benally Pleads Guilty to Charges from Illegal Marijuana Farms

    According to court documents, from approximately January 2018 to November 2020, Benally, 48, and his co-conspirators established over 30 farms, covering more than 400 acres, on land obtained from Navajo Nation members. To fund this illegal enterprise, Benally and a co-conspirator traveled to California and created front companies to solicit Chinese investors. These investors were charged cash fees ranging from $20,000 to $50,000 for counterfeit cannabis cultivation licenses.

  • Three Injured in Farmington Shooting, Suspect Arrested

    It was discovered that several individuals had been injured. A juvenile sustained a graze wound, a 16-year-old was shot in the leg, and an 18-year-old was shot in the chest and transported to Albuquerque in critical condition. The vehicle involved in the crash is connected to the shooter. At this time, the shooter has been identified as an 18-year-old male.
