Farmington Armed Robbery

Farmington, NM - On September 14th, 2015, at approximately 2115 hours, Farmington Police Officers were dispatched to the Walmart at 1400 W. Main St., in reference to an armed robbery. 

Farmington, NM - On September 14th, 2015, at approximately 2115 hours, Farmington Police Officers were dispatched to the Walmart at 1400 W. Main St., in reference to an armed robbery.  The investigation revealed the suspect entered Walmart and proceeded to the electronics department.  The suspect then approached the cashier in the electronics department and made an initial demand for the money in the cash register.  The cashier ignored the suspect's initial demand.  The suspect then raised his shirt, exposing his waistband area.  The cashier observed what they believed to be a weapon.  The cashier then complied with the suspect's demand and an undisclosed amount of money was placed in a bag.  The suspect exited the store, fleeing on foot heading westbound.  A description of the suspect was provided to officers; however, they were unable to locate the suspect at that time.  With surveillance video, Farmington Police Detectives have developed significant leads and are currently attempting to positively identify the suspect.

The move paved the way for the hiring of Armed Campus Safety Monitors (ACSMs), former certified law enforcement officers tasked with providing an additional layer of protection for students and staff during emergencies.
