Man Accused of Stalking Young Girls,Arrested

From Farmington Police:

On Wednesday, March 15, Farmington police arrested 65-year-old Raymond Montoya for aggravated stalking of an 11-year-old girl. The Farmington resident was on probation for an earlier charge of harassment involving the same victim, who was 10 at the time. An Order of Protection was also in place to prevent Montoya from having contact with her.

The harassment charge stemmed from incidents that occurred in May of 2016. Montoya’s initial contact with the girl and her two sisters, then ages 13 and 16, took place at a local establishment. The girls were at karaoke night with their parents, when Montoya started acting and speaking inappropriately toward them. The girls’ mother advised Montoya to stay away from them. A separate incident took place at the skating rink when the 10-year-old girl and her 13-year-old sister were there. Montoya approached the girls, tapped the 10-year-old on the back and expressed he wanted to go away with her. The incidents were reported to FPD on May 10 and an investigation was opened. A warrant was issued for Montoya’s arrest on May 12 on the charge of harassment. He was booked into the San Juan County Dedication Center on May 14.

On March 14, 2017 Farmington police received a report of Montoya showing up at the now 11-year-old’s bus stop on multiple occasions. He had also approached and spoke to her while she was at Walmart with her brother.

On March 14, an arrest warrant was issued for Montoya for the charge of aggravated stalking. He was arrested on March 15 and booked into the San Juan County Detention Center. He is being held on a $10,000 bond.

Kirtland Students on Remote Learning thru Thursday

The district has worked with the Lower Valley Water Users Association on the testing needed to lift the boil water notice. Because of the number of tests required, the district has decided to keep students on remote learning as a precaution for their well-being. If test results come back early, the district must still follow processes and protocols to flush and clear the water lines at each school before in-person instruction can resume. Safety is our top priority for the well-being of our Kirtland students.

Water Samples taken from the Lower Valley Water Association system have tested negative for e-coli. The Boil Water notice has been lifted for customers.
Woman's Husband Arrested for Kirtland Killing

Through the course of the investigation, detectives discovered that Lauren Patterson’s husband, Jess Patterson, had previously resided in California and had been arrested at least 6 times for domestic violence in that state and had been arrested in July 2026 in New Mexico for battering Ms. Patterson. An autopsy revealed Ms. Patterson suffered multiple broken bones, bruising, and internal injuries.
