Suspect in Custody after Fatal Stabbing

Farmington police are investigating a fatal stabbing that took place early this morning in South Farmington. Officers were dispatched around 1:25 a.m. to 3001 Bloomfield Highway in reference to a male who had been stabbed. The male, 24, was transported to San Juan Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. The incident remains under investigation at this time.

Update:  A suspect is in custody.

The suspect in a homicide that took place early this morning was taken into custody following a standoff with police. Officers were dispatched around 1:25 a.m. to 3001 Bloomfield Highway in reference to a male who had been stabbed in the chest. The man, later identified as 24-year-old Dion Debarry of Farmington, was transported to San Juan Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. Officers at the scene learned the suspect, 40-year-old Ronnie Garcia of Farmington, fled the area toward the Rimrock Lounge. A perimeter was quickly established and after several hours of surveillance and additional investigation, FPD SWAT and Negotiators were summoned. Following an almost 3 1/2-hour standoff, FPD SWAT members entered the room that Garcia was suspected to be in. He was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the police station for questioning. Garcia is being charged with murder in the second degree and tampering with evidence. This incident remains under investigation.
