Teen Suspect Arrested for Auto Burglaries, Shooting

The Juvenile Wellness Court provided detectives with a credible lead based on the suspect’s description FPD posted to their Facebook page. Through follow-up investigation, detectives were able to identify the suspect as a 17-year-old male from Farmington. He was placed on a probation hold by the Juvenile Wellness Court on January 12 on an unrelated matter. Farmington detectives are requesting the following charges: two counts of 2nd degree felony aggravated auto burglary, one count 3rd degree felony aggravated battery and one 3rd degree felony of tampering with evidence. The Farmington Police Department’s Detective Division has identified the suspect in a string of auto burglaries in the area of Barcelona Circle. The most recent occurred on January 8 and ended with a 31-year-old Farmington man being shot after confronting the suspect. Prior to the shooting, the man was inside the residence visiting with the homeowner’s girlfriend when they heard the garage door opening. The man went out to the garage and confronted the suspect who then ran off. The man followed the suspect to a nearby walking trail. The suspect fired at the man, hitting him three times before fleeing. The man was shot in the wrist and both legs. He was transported to San Juan Regional Medical Center, treated for his injuries and released.

Kirtland Students on Remote Learning thru Thursday

The district has worked with the Lower Valley Water Users Association on the testing needed to lift the boil water notice. Because of the number of tests required, the district has decided to keep students on remote learning as a precaution for their well-being. If test results come back early, the district must still follow processes and protocols to flush and clear the water lines at each school before in-person instruction can resume. Safety is our top priority for the well-being of our Kirtland students.

Water Samples taken from the Lower Valley Water Association system have tested negative for e-coli. The Boil Water notice has been lifted for customers.
Woman's Husband Arrested for Kirtland Killing

Through the course of the investigation, detectives discovered that Lauren Patterson’s husband, Jess Patterson, had previously resided in California and had been arrested at least 6 times for domestic violence in that state and had been arrested in July 2026 in New Mexico for battering Ms. Patterson. An autopsy revealed Ms. Patterson suffered multiple broken bones, bruising, and internal injuries.
