Man Hit by Car, Body Discovered 4 Hours Later

On February 6, 2020 at about 3:09 a.m., State Police Officers were dispatched to northbound US550 near milepost 168 in reference to a pedestrian found in the median.  Officers identified the pedestrian as Anthony Cachucha (25) of Farmington, NM.   Through further investigation officers learned Cachucha was struck by a vehicle.  Further investigation officers were able to determine Cachucha was struck by the 2004 Chevrolet officers investigated on February 5th.

On February 5, 2020 at about 11:04 p.m., New Mexico State Police officers responded to a crash on US550 near milepost 167, north of Aztec, NM. 

The initial investigation indicated a 2004 Chevrolet, driven by a sixty-year-old female of Farmington, NM was traveling south on US550 when she struck something in the roadway.  The driver contacted law enforcement to report the crash.  Officers arrived on scene and completed a crash investigation.  During the crash investigation, officers searched the area where debris from the Chevrolet was found and almost a mile in both directions of US550.  Officers were unable to find what the Chevrolet had struck.    

On February 6, 2020 at about 3:09 a.m., State Police Officers were dispatched to northbound US550 near milepost 168 in reference to a pedestrian found in the median.  Officers identified the pedestrian as Anthony Cachucha (25) of Farmington, NM.   Through further investigation officers learned Cachucha was struck by a vehicle.  Further investigation officers were able to determine Cachucha was struck by the 2004 Chevrolet officers investigated on February 5th.  Cachucha had succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash and he was pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of Medical Investigator.

The driver of the Chevrolet, who will not be named, was not injured.  The driver did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol and is not facing charges.   

 The crash is still under investigation by New Mexico State Police Uniform Bureau. No additional information is available at this time.

  • Resident Dies after House Fire N. of Aztec

    Crews arrived to find a structure on fire and the occupant inside.  Despite a quick response from fire crews and efforts by San Juan County Sheriff’s Deputies, one occupant was removed from the structure by firefighters and transported to the hospital by San Juan Regional Medical Center EMS. The occupant was pronounced dead at the hospital.
